An important area of activity for Pröhl Consulting Berlin is the development and integration of IT systems — known as IT Systems Engineering. This encompasses, on the one hand, software applications and, on the other, the hardware infrastructure required to operate them.
A precisely tailored solution cannot be achieved through the same approach in every organisation. This depends greatly on the individual structure of the relevant business process and the correlated environmental variables. Depending on the degree of specialisation of the task to be supported, appropriate measures and approaches must be identified.
Degree of Specialisation: High
The development of bespoke software is often unavoidable, as specialist business processes require specialist solutions. Where a high degree of specialisation in the relevant domain or task is present, it is advisable to provide a solution developed in line with the associated requirements. This is done within the framework of what is known as software engineering. This usually entails a relatively high level of effort, as a completely new development is required. In this context, methods of agile software development (e.g. Extreme Programming or Test-Driven Engineering) also play an important role.
Degree of Specialisation: Medium
A further approach to individually supporting specific business processes is customisation. Here, standard software (e.g. within the framework of an ERP system) is adapted to the customer’s needs. This technique can be used for less complex or less specialised processes. Compared to the first option, significant cost-saving potential can be realised here.
Degree of Specialisation: Low
Where the process in question is a standard process (e.g. accounting, human resources management) that can also be found in many other organisations, the use of standard software can generally be recommended. Here you typically benefit from mature, long-established products as well as a standardised update process provided by the software manufacturer.
Hardware Engineering
For the operation of the software solutions mentioned above, the underlying hardware infrastructure must also be taken into account. The requirements placed on this hardware foundation can vary greatly depending on the software deployed. It is therefore not possible to make a blanket statement in advance about the hardware required and its performance capacity, as this depends on factors including the desired number of users as well as security and continuity requirements.
By intelligently sizing the hardware components to match the software applications in use, significant efficiency gains can be realised and potential problems can be avoided.
What value does this create for your business?
Have your business processes optimised through appropriate software applications combined with a suitable hardware architecture. Unlock a new level of performance in your processes through expert software-based support — for example by automating recurring tasks or integrating individual heterogeneous software silos via qualified interfaces into a holistic IT system landscape.
We will be happy to explain which of the above approaches is suitable for you and optimally supports your IT systems in a personal consultation.
Whether specialist software (e.g. in the healthcare sector) or the introduction of standard software — Pröhl Consulting Berlin is delighted to support you in planning, design and roll-out, drawing on years of experience in these fields.
Together we will master these challenges and deliver a significant efficiency improvement for your organisation!
